From Patrimonio a Todo Tren, we hope you have enjoyed this Easter Week. In this post, we come to talk about the processions you can enjoy through the towns along the Sevilla - Huelva line, where this week is lived with great devotion. It is not only a source of pride for the towns but also part of the vast wealth of intangible cultural heritage of the provinces of Huelva and Sevilla.
In San Juan del Puerto, Holy Tuesday stands out with the Via Crucis of the Holy Christ of Love, an important work by Diego López Bueno dated 1610. It is a procession of silence accompanied by chapel music. The Holy Week of Niebla begins on Friday of Sorrows with the spectacular and colorful Via Crucis of the Christ of Good Death around the wall. During Palm Sunday, a procession of palms accompanied by children dressed as Hebrews moves from the church of San Martín to that of Our Lady of La Granada. At the end of the week, Lent concludes with the solemn Holy Burial. From La Palma del Condado, it is important to highlight its "Madrugá" on Good Friday, with a procession that starts at 5 in the morning with the image of Our Father Jesus Nazarene, an anonymous work from the late 16th or early 17th century. Meanwhile, Carrión de los Céspedes features the uniqueness of a procession that takes place every four years, corresponding to the Most Holy Christ of the True Cross and Most Holy Mary of Solitude, which, in fact, belonged to the oldest Brotherhood founded in the town: The Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of the True Cross, based in the Hermitage of Our Lady of Consolation, whose Rules were established in 1660. This document is still preserved and is one of the treasures that Carrión holds. The last time this procession toured the streets was in 2022, so we will be able to see it again in Easter 2026.
