La primera arquitecta española se graduó en la ETSAM. ¡Conoce la vida y voz feminista de Matilde Ucelay!

Hoy les vamos a hablar de una arquitecta muy interesante, Matilde Ucelay Maórtua. Nacida en Madrid el 18 de octubre de 1912, se convirtió en la primera mujer arquitecta de España en 1936, abriendo camino en un campo dominado por hombres. Su carrera comenzó en un momento de muchísima tensión, justo al estallar la Guerra Civil Española. Posteriormente tuvo que enfrentarse a las restricciones del régimen franquista, que limitaban severamente el papel de la mujer en la sociedad y en profesiones precisamente como la suya, la arquitectura. 

A pesar de los obstáculos, Ucelay persistió en su trabajo, especializándose en proyectos de interiorismo y restauración, donde podía aplicar su visión humanista de la arquitectura. Además, se dedicó a la enseñanza y a la defensa de los derechos de las mujeres en su campo, inspirando a futuras generaciones de arquitectas en España.

Su tenacidad y contribuciones fueron finalmente reconocidas en 2004, cuando recibió el Premio Nacional de Arquitectura, convirtiéndose en una de las primeras mujeres en obtener este galardón. Este premio no solo honró su trabajo individual sino que también marcó un hito en el reconocimiento del papel de las mujeres en la arquitectura española.

Ucelay falleció el 21 de noviembre de 2008, dejando un legado significativo como pionera en la arquitectura y como figura inspiradora para la igualdad de género en las profesiones tradicionalmente dominadas por hombres. Su vida y obra continúan siendo un referente en la lucha por la inclusión y la diversidad en el ámbito arquitectónico.
