#saltodecaballo #masterpc21 ENG: For centuries, the human being has been considered the center of the world, believing that nature was just one more tool to satisfy our needs. However, something that has gone quite unnoticed is the fact that the environment has always influenced us when creating our identity, our culture. For this reason, most of our creations and manifestations are mixed with the flora and fauna of the place. These have a great symbolic load, they give encrypted data of the history or the personality that they want to represent. Examples? What symbolic load does the lion have? In how many human works have we seen it? And the snake? And the rose? And the lily? To give you a concrete example, we could highlight the painting of The Arnolfini Marriage, where there is no lack of a dog that refers to sincerity and love, and oranges, luxury fruits as they have to be brought from the south of Europe, explaining without words the wealth that this marriage possessed. With this we observe the importance that we really give to what we consider natural, although many times we are not aware of it. Can we also see that union in Ciudad Universitaria? Of course yes. At CIU we find the union of nature and culture in its gardens, parks and forests. In addition, we can enjoy and delve into its flora thanks to the Botanical Garden and the museum of the Faculty of Pharmacy. As for the fauna, a good example of nature and culture is the statue of Los Portadores de la Antorcha in the Plaza de Ramón y Cajal, which you will be able to learn more about in the next post. What we intend with this project is to show CIU in an original way, to explore this cultural landscape through its flora and fauna, these being the ones that show us the anecdotes of the University City, its historical and artistic events.
